| < PREV | This quite remarkable stone circle is visible for miles around. The stones date from around 4500 years ago, the tallest are 5 metres high, giving them a sinister presence. There is a strong sensation of being surrounded by figures, specially in failing light such as this. Viewed from the air they form a cross aligned by the compass points, with major 'avenues' of stones along the north south axes. Their purpose is not certain, but their aligment suggests a connection with 18.5 year lunar cycle. | NEXT > | ||||||||
